Thomas Leavitt has agreed to abide by the City of Santa Cruz's voluntary
campaign finance requirements, which dictate that no more than $250 may be
accepted from any one individual, $600 from any one political committee, and
in no case may more than ~$19,000 be spent in total. As a result, and in line
with the candidate's personal inclinations, this will be primarily a
grassroots, feet on the street, volunteer-oriented campaign.
However... we need all the money we can raise. Raising enough money to get our
message out will make or break this campaign.

Our current fundraising
goal is to raise $1300.00 before August 5th, so that we can pay for the ballot

Thank you for your support.
Statement of THOMAS LEAVITT, Candidate for
City Council, City of Santa Cruz
Occupation: Internet entrepreneur Age: 30
Education and Qualifications: Chair, City of Santa Cruz Living Wage Advisory
Committee; former member, City of Santa Cruz Homeless Issues Task Force.
Active member (partial list): Affordable Housing Advocates; Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual and Transgender Alliance; School Voices; SCAN; several homeless
advocacy groups.
When elected, I promise to vote: No on the Downtown Ordinances! No on the
privatization of public space! No on massive buildings downtown! Yes on Safe
Sleeping Zones! Yes on a permanent, multi-block Downtown Plaza! Yes on
affordable housing! Yes on supporting the Living Wage!
My politics are founded on the these four pillars: ecological wisdom,
grassroots democracy, nonviolence, and social justice.
I promise to stay true to the policies and principles which I profess during
my campaign. I promise to cut the "military budget" and prioritize funding for
social services; to not endorse or accept policies which target the poor and
oppressed for harassment and criminalization; to loudly and passionately
dissent from the passage of hypocritical and unjust laws; and to push for
positive change that empowers and engages all sectors of the community, not
just the rich and powerful ones.
