More on Dye
Dye is fascinating… his book constantly has me thinking… although, possibly, the thoughts induced are not what he’d expect. I really want to get ahold of a copy of the 12th edition, and see what he has to say about the various events that have happened over the last twelve years.
Reading through the section on political parties and interest groups, what struck me was how profoundly anti-elitist Green values, and more importantly, Green structures, are… which is why the Green Party is capable of sustaining a set of values and properties which (despite some mainstreaming) are in such fundamental conflict with elite consensus. And why it is so important that we NOT drop the ideas of consensus, grassroots democracy, and decentralization from our organizational processes. These are what have prevented the Green Party from being “captured” and mainstreamed into irrelevance.
