Violins for Peace
Yesterday’s big event was the violin. We followed that up with purchase of a Suzuki practice book at the music store that Lynnaea had been needing, and Gunilla and Lynnaea took a trip to Toys R Us to buy a karoke remote controlled robot (eek… karoke is like, one of the more alarming Japanese cultural imports)… the kids got a total kick out of that. It took some help from Uncle Andrew the sysadmin to get it working. Lynessa seems to have been mollified by the purchase.
Lynnaea is in the kid’s room at the moment, praticing her violin - scales and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”.
Today’s big event was attending the Labor Peace event at the Veteran’s Hall… Andi, Rabbit myself and the kids went. Lots of talk and discussion and information. Lot of faces I recognized from running for city council, various labor and peace organizations, Green Party, etc.
The kids spent most of the time coloring peace doves and peace symbols, which the organizers assembled into a banner. The kids got a big round of applause from the audience. Community TV was there, and said the event would be broadcast on Community TV in Santa Cruz and Monterey, which is pretty cool. Kids refused to eat hot dogs… for some godforsaken reason, the organizers thought to bring mustard and relish, and even had veggie dogs, but no ketchup! I had the veggie dogs (they were free).
Therefore, we went to Subway afterwards - I refuse to buy fast food, Burger King or McDonald’s, etc., so Subway is a reasonable compromise between the kids corporate capitalist controlled tastebuds and something halfway healthy - paying $3 for two slices of ham and cheese on a white bread bun seems ridiculous, but at least it isn’t loaded with fat, grease, condiments, etc.
