Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood

I grew up visiting Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. While I don’t remember many of the advertures we had together, I remember many of the people… Mr. Speedee delivery, the King and his court… Mr. Rogers’ putting on his shoes, singing “It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood” and then turning to tell us what we were going to do today.

When I heard of his death yesterday, I was saddened… it says something about today’s society that there is no comparable figure.

Here’s a posting from a listserv run by members of our church:

Brothers and Sisters in the Gnosis,

I was glad to see + Philip mention the passing of Fred Rogers into
the Light. My heart was truly saddened when I heard the news
yesterday morning. While some of American Pop Culture has made fun
of this wonderful man, I applaud his life. Being 39 years old, I grew
up watching “Mr Rogers”, and am pleased that my 11year old daughter
has done the same. Everyday he taught children compassion,
understanding, forgiveness, and countless other qualities that are
lacking in today’s culture.
If all of us on the path of Gnosis used Fred Rogers as our role
model, we would give of ourselves simply to give love as he did. We
would be better listeners, better friends, less judgmental, and be
some one you could always count on. We would be better people, and
the world would be a better place. Many blessing to our beloved
brother as he passes into the realms of the Unknown Father.

Your Brother in the Light
