This is all over Australian newspapers. And there’s a passing reference to these plans in The Telegraph of London, as well. Not a goddamn word in American media (correction, a search in Google News turns up a reference to it, quoting secondary coverage, on Utne Reader online, and, amusingly enough, a posting on a Baltimore Sun reader forum, 2 days afterwards). What a joke?!?

The special tribunals will involve no juries and there will be no appeals to higher courts, only reviews of verdicts by the defence secretary, and ultimately, the president.
For security reasons, only US lawyers will be allowed to act for the Guantanamo detainees, all of whom are foreigners.

THE US has floated plans to turn Guantanamo Bay into a death camp, with its own death row and execution chamber.
Prisoners would be tried, convicted and executed without leaving its boundaries, without a jury and without right of appeal, The Mail on Sunday newspaper reported yesterday.
The plans were revealed by Major-General Geoffrey Miller, who is in charge of 680 suspects from 43 countries, including two Australians.
