I’m looking for employment in a small company, independent contractor,
self-employed proprietorship environment, where professional relationships
don’t exclude personal friendships, and flexibility of attire and work
requirements are possible. Willing to relocate anywhere in CA.
I have the following skills to offer: experience with a variety of computer
platforms (DOS/Windows, MAC, and Amiga), data entry skills (type 40 wpm,
increasing with amount of work), research skills (know my way around a
library, understand computer/keyword base searches, can find information
through unobvious/peripherial aspects), phone skills (not my strong point,
have done cold calling in political campaigns, some phone work in process
of research, prefer to avoid receptionist type work), generally an
intelligent, easy to work with/train person, willing to tackle any task
with a modicum of preparation, aware of my own limits, self-starting,
able to work unsupervised, independently.
In other words, if you need a smart, flexible, easily trainable gopher,
research assistant, clerk/typist who is easy to get along with (a premium
in a small environment), I’m the person.
I also have the following special attributes:
Although I’m a white male, I have a pretty extensive track record working in
a pluralistic environment. I’ve lived in our schools “Multi-Cultural Hall”
for the past two years, all the schools I’ve attended have had large numbers
of people of color, and I’ve worked for a number of different women/men,
including people of color. I’m most comfortable in a pluralistic environ-
ment. I speak some Spanish, though I don’t claim to be fluent.
WOMEN: I’ve worked with women for most of my life, my first job was for a
woman running a resume typing service out of her home, my second was as a
general aide to a woman member of our local city council, my third job
was working for a political consultant/public relations person out of a
small office in the back of her home, one of my on campus jobs was working
in the post office for a woman supervisor. I’m willing and able at all
levels of consciousness to work for/with, take orders from, relate to a
woman employer. I’m not a jackass or a jerk, and I won’t cause you or any
of your employees problems.
I can provide letters of reference from each of the above employers, if
needed, and from my supervisor in the janitorial department at school as
well (a man).
On a more personal level, I am 20 years old, 6′0″, have long hair, a beard,
brown eyes, and glasses. I tend towards jeans and t-shirts, but can be more
formal if required. I generally refrain from alcohol, don’t smoke, don’t
use drugs. I AM BI-SEXUAL. If that offends you, please don’t hire me, as
I am out, and have been for a while.
