Reaction to Nader considering a run for President in 2004
USAToday: Nader Considering Another Try at White House
My comments in reaction to Democratic UnderGround commentary on potential Nader candidacy .
Nader didn’t force a single person to vote for him in 2000.
… and he wouldn’t force a single person to vote for him in 2004, either. This is a democracy, people have a choice… why are the Dems so obsessed with blaming that relatively tiny percentage of people who voted for Nader… instead of all the people who stayed home, and all the Democrats who voted for Bush (a much larger percentage).
Why are Dems so freaked out about the Green Party, and putting so much energy into “converting” them back to the Democratic Party, when it would be a lot more rewarding, and a lot less effort, to try and bring the people who’ve dropped out of the voting system back in, or Dems who’ve strayed to the Republicans… I swear, if they put a 10th of the energy into that that they did into critizing Nader and the Green Party, they’d have already grown themselves by far more than 3 million voters.
If “Anybody But Bush Again” is the best that Democrats can come up with (a repeat of the “we’re less lame” argument of 2000 that went over so very well), they’re in dire trouble.
Can’t they come up with a reason to vote FOR them, instead of AGAINST the Republicans?
Each and every one of those 2.7 million voters made a conscious decision to cast a vote for Nader, even at the cost of potentially electing Bush - and, if they do so again in 2004, it will be because the Democrats failed to convince them to cast their vote otherwise.
It is the VOTERS who will decide whether or not they want to vote for Nader.
