My comments on Kucinich and Dean on See The Forest Blog
My buddy Dave commented on Kucinich’s “yes” vote on the Clinton impeachment inquiry.
My comment back:
There are plenty of other reasons people in the progressive community are skeptical about Kucinich… the most recent I’ve seen have been complaints about his involvement with the aerospace industry; but, when it comes down to it, the question becomes: how much of a purist do you want to be, and what limits does that place on practical politics?
Kucinich (and Dean for that matter), fall on the acceptable side of the line… the former for his politics, the latter for his attitude and campaign tactics.
If you’re looking for stuff to complain about, Dean’s centrist views and history offer a lot more fodder. I think that a lot of his progressive supporters are going to wind up thinking very carefully about their level of commitment, after he gets more exposure - although I also suspect that most of them, as the recent American Prospect article, will be willing to look past his liabilities at the larger picture.
If you’re curious as to how your views match up with Dean’s (and that of other candidates), see http://selectsmart.com/president/
Dean wound up at 68% compatible in my results (right there with the “Socialist candidate”), Kucinich 90%, and Nader 100%… perhaps I shouldn’t be too surprised at that last figure, given that I supported Nader in 2000 and am a diehard Green (despite Dave’s constant efforts to persuade me otherwise).
