Message Sent Through ActForChange.com on Davis Recall: Resign now!
Governor Gray Davis
Like most Greens and progressives, I do not support the campaign to recall you, did not sign the recall petition, and believe it to be a right-wing coup attempt… however, please understand that I am not happy with your record to date, and that I think almost ANY Democrat would have made a better governor, been more progressive, and handled the energy crisis better (the latter has personally cost me thousands in increased electricity/gas bills… hundreds every month, and played a large part in forcing the sale of my home, I will resent that forever) while still beating the pants off the Republicans.
I am writing you today to urge you to resign as governor immediately. This would allow the Democratic Party to make history by putting a Latino (Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante) in the Governor’s office, and pre-empt this right-wing coup attempt and save all Californians from an ugly and expensive recall election which will be decided by a tiny minority of the voting age population.
Should you opt to face the recall election, you will not have my support, and I will vote to recall you and then vote for Peter Camejo as a replacement. Even if it is likely that Richard Riordan or Bill Jones or Arnold S. will become governor as the result of your recall. I think many Greens share this sentiment (though not all) and will act accordingly.
Sincerely,
Thomas Leavitt
