Hmm… and I’m supposed to believe that the next Democrat is going to do better? Do you hear a single Democratic Presidential candidate talking about how the fate of the world’s ecology lies in the balance - at least, in specific and concrete terms like this, and what policy actions they are going to take to reverse these trends?
Now, let’s turn it around: can you imagine a Green President who would NOT make this a priority? Who would NOT be out in front on this issue? … there’s the gap; there’s the real difference between Greens and Democrats, and why Greens have less in common with Democrats than Democrats have with Republicans… why *we* are the true opposition party. -Thomas]

Pummeled by overfishing, the world’s coral reef ecosystems “will not survive for more than a few decades” unless drastic action is taken to protect them, experts warn.
To forestall a disaster that could devastate marine life, expose populous coastlines to stormier waves and economically devastate a tourism-dependent nation like Australia, the United States and other nations should vastly expand the designated “no take” zones — where fishing and other exploitation is banned — in coral ecosystems, said one author of an article for Friday’s issue of Science.
