A classic right-winger whine by David Horowitz
So, I’m trying dig up the URL for the Stiglitz article below, so I can blog it, and use Salon.com’s search function to hunt for it. No joy. Nor can I easily find it via the home page (Salon needs a serious Jakob Nielson usability review). What I do find is a 2000 era article commenting on Stiglitz’s termination as a special adviser to the World Bank for being too vocally critical of the IMF. I’m reading that, and I see an blurb for this Horowitz article, to wit, that his critics on Amazon are cowards who won’t provide their name or email addresses… sparks my curiousity, so I go read it. Yikes, these folks live in some alternative reality… it’s like the Soviet Union isn’t dead, and “the left” is actually a significant factor in American politics (you gotta wonder how these folks would react to a serious leftist movement, such as that in Central America or Europe). More to the point, these people talk about ideological rigidity, and then churn out diatribes that look like they were written by a parrot…

“Awk, awk… radical leftist professors!”
“Awk, awk… liberal media conspiracy!”
“Awk, awk… socialism (sic) is bad!”
Maybe I ought to write a right-wing version of Eliza, or the programs that jargonize text…
Seriously, the fact that these folks are so utterly out of touch with reality… in fact, even more so than the average authentic hard core leftists I know, is disturbing. Talk about ivory tower academics, the right-wing has a major problem with this.
