Gavin Newsom plays the “Democrat” card… panic button time.
[Wow… Newsom must be desperate. By what logic does the election of Matt Gonzalez threaten Barbara Boxer’s hold on her seat in the Senate?!? And what’s with the line about Humbolt, CA and Portland, OR being places “where money is evil unless it’s taken from someone who earned it and given to someone who didn’t.'’ How are attitudes like this an expression of Democratic Party values? I mean, I think us Greens would be happy to welcome everyone in the Democratic Party who believes in a progressive tax structure and income redistribution, but I don’t think there’d be much of a Democratic Party left over afterwards… except for maybe a few DLC stalwarts and RNC moles. -Thomas]

The officially non-partisan race for mayor of San Francisco has become a high-stakes battleground for the Greens and the Democrats, with both sides bringing in help from across the nation.

Gonzalez’s campaign officials say that rumors of busloads of Green activists hitting the road for San Francisco are “a serious inflation,'’ but that didn’t stop one Newsom campaign worker from suggesting that more than 1,000 Green Party members will be coming into town to work full-time for Gonzalez.
They’ll be coming from Santa Cruz, Humboldt County and Portland, Ryan Chamberlain said in a rev-’em-up e-mail to Newsom’s supporters, places “where money is evil unless it’s taken from someone who earned it and given to someone who didn’t.'’
