[Of course, the Chronicle’s’ agenda here is to paint Matt Gonzalez’ base as a bunch of crazed freakazoids and scare the swing voters away from him, but this is illustrative of how little support Newsom has in the “creative” community in San Francisco (and how much support Matt has)… as I said below, take a look at Tribe.net; the only search for a tribe related to Gavin Newsom produced this:

I know who I’d prefer to be Mayor - just judging from the people he associates with. And it ain’t Gavin Newsom.

At 12:40 a.m. Wednesday — two hours after they snuffed the canned disco and packed up the Diet Coke at Gavin Newsom’s election night celebration
– the party raged on at Matt Gonzalez’s South of Market fest, with DJ Forest Green whipping the dance floor into a sweaty groove.
Let the pundits and spin doctors spend the next 34 days waxing about the philosophical differences between the candidates. A peek at the election night parties showed plenty of contrasts between Newsom, the sleek Marina District representative on the Board of Supervisors who is chummy with the Getty family, and Gonzalez, the rumpled board president who shares a Haight-Ashbury apartment with a roommate.
Filling Newsom’s gathering at the Avalon Ballroom on Van Ness Avenue were longtime City Hall types, a half-dozen TV news crews and an abundance of men wearing suit jackets. Playing on the large video screen before the election results flashed: the “Dr. Phil” show. The room emptied by 11 p.m.
