Joe Williams Achieves Ballot Status!
I, Joe Williams, candidate for the U.S. Congress (House of
Representatives, 17th District) on the Peace And Freedom Party ticket, have
been certified as having achieved ballot status for the March 2, 2004
primary. A hearty thanks to all those who helped me achieve this goal.
(This was done through signature gathering alone, with no filing fees
having to be paid.)
A diverse coalition of this community came together in supporting
my successful attempt to get on the ballot. I am proud to note the support
from individual members of such groups as the Women’s International League
for Peace and Freedom; Free Radio Santa Cruz; the Coalition for Impeachment
Now; Art & Revolution; the Santa Cruz Peace Coalition; Santa Cruz
Indymedia; and the Resource Center for Nonviolence. (Listing not meant to
imply the endorsement of the listed organizations.)
I also wish to thank those long term Peace and Freedom Party
members who helped gather signatures for me, long term P&F
registrants who signed my petition, as well as those who re-registered as
Peace and Freedom voters from the Democratic or Green parties in order to be
able to sign.
All these elements came together in a successful campaign for ballot status.
Those registrants who now wish to re-register back to their
original party for the sake of the presidential primaries can now safely do
so. Please consider remaining registered with the Peace and Freedom party
in order to be able to vote for me on March 2, as it looks likely that I
will be facing a challenge for the nomination from Steve Argue. You will
also get the honor of voting for either Mumia Abu-Jamal or Leonard Peltier,
as they both will be appearing on the Peace and Freedom Party primary
ballot as presidential nominees. Maintaining P&F registration status will
also entitle you to cast up to 7 votes for County Central Committee
members. This will be important for the future direction of the party locally.
Again, my thanks for everyone’s support. I am endeavoring to run a
strong and credible campaign, and with your continued support, I will
succeed in doing so. I am now actively seeking individual and group
endorsements, so please contact me if you are interested.
Best,
Joe Williams
