Seriously delusional behavior from Alioto

[The only thing I can think of is that Angela expects Newsom to fuck her over. Thus, she will be able to cry “betrayal”, and have an excuse for preserving her loyalty to the Democratic Party and not endorsing Gonzalez… and that Newsom is prepared to pay the political price for fucking her over. I certainly can’t believe that he’s handed her the power she thinks she has, and I certainly suspect that Newsom’s claims that he made no such promises are correct. Maybe she really thinks she can recall him, and the beat Matt in a one-on-one race? Dunno, but this is one of the strangest endorsements ever. CIVIL RIGHTS LAWYER Angela Alioto shocked progressives Nov. 24 with her decision to endorse downtown-backed mayoral candidate Gavin Newsom, but this strange marriage is already off to a rocky start.

Alioto told the Bay Guardian, both by phone and e-mail, that Newsom promised her she would be the “vice mayor” in charge of three key policy areas: homelessness, contract reform, and public power. But while Newsom said she would play a significant role in his administration, his campaign denied that role has been formalized or is anything close to what it’s been billed as by Alioto.
