Gartner: IT vendor consolidation to lead to “accelerated job losses” through 2005.
Saw the item below in SAGE News… the report mixes global and regional analysis specific to Asia-Pacific, so it is kind of hard to tell which prediction applies to which area, but what caught my attention was this:
“… the information technology (IT) industry has now entered a period of vendor consolidation and accelerated job losses which will last through 2005.”
Just what I wanted to hear. Not.

####### Industry: IT consolidation slows recovery
K. C. Krishnadas reports from Bangalore, India for EE Times with a very
informative lead paragraph:
While a real recovery is on its way and outsourcing will
continue to grow, at least half the software companies in the
world will go out of existence, said research and analyst
firm, Gartner, Inc. (Stamford, Conn.) in its predictions for
Asia Pacific’s tech landscape for next year. Gartner predicts
that “fifty percent of technology suppliers will be eliminated
from the competitive landscape by end of 2005.”
Gartner predicted in a briefing that vendor consolidation would
continue over the next 24 months. Upside? Companies can focus on
quality instead of pricing. Tech spending: predicted to increase.
Gartner also predicted growth in outsourcing. And: Linux will take
growth from Unix but not from Microsoft.
