Installing NetBackup BusinesServer

Note: Windows 2003 Server is supported on both client and server by Veritas Netbackup BusinesServer.

So, I’m trying to install Netbackup BusinesServer… install Debian 3.x at home, no go (lots of story there, but separate).

Install RH 9 at work. No go. Not compatible. Call Veritas, am told will get callback in 2 hours. Get email to home address instead. Request is mis-understood… am told this is supported on Feature Pack 6… after dorking around this morning, figure out that means the *client* is supported. Not the server. Argh.

O.K. Let’s see what version of RHEL is supported… argh. 2.1 - do I want to install an obsolete version of RH, just to be compatible with Veritas?

Amusing note:

First sentence in the installation instructions:

“Proper mounting of the NetBackup CD-ROM is essential to a successful product.”

No duh. Scary thought, that someone incapable of mounting a CD-ROM without handholding would be installing this.
