To: All State Green Parties
Green Friends –
I’ve made my point of view re the form of Green Party participation in the
2004 Presidential election pretty clear on the webpage
www.naderforsenate.us.
I don’t know how many states will have nomination processes that include
that old Green standby, “NONE OF THE ABOVE,” so let me just say that I am
willing to have my name put forward, if anyone cares to do so, for the
purpose of giving those Greens who think we (meaning the GPUS as an
organization, *not individual Greens*) ought to be boycotting this
flawed and unwinnable process a way to indicate their position during the
nominating process.
If nominated, I pledge to run, not a safe states campaign, not
an “under the radar” campaign, but no campaign at all. I will accept no
contributions, make no press junkets, grant no interviews, issue no
position statements beyond this one right here and what I have already
written at www.naderforsenate.us.
Here is my stump speech, in toto: “No comment. Thank you.”
I feel I am eminently well-qualified for this kind of campaign, since I
am a very busy guy and really don’t have time to do anything additional
beyond what I am already doing, and once I am done writing this e-mail, I
really don’t expect to do anything more about it, as the matter be in the
hands of the various states and their convention delegates.
Other states might have “favorite children” willing to play this role
within their own states; that’s fine, I gladly yield to them.
I assure you, this may seem facetious, but it really isn’t. It will be
very important for state Green parties to get an accurate idea of the
range of opinion within their memberships going into this critical
election season, and my intent in making this “announcement” is to
help that happen and spur ongoing discussion of the issues involved.
