Green congressional candidate charges
Rep. Matsui ‘creating’ disabled vets
by sending more troops to Iraq
SACRAMENTO - Green Party congressional candidate Pat Driscoll today
blasted 5th District incumbent Rep. Robert Matsui for - rather than helping
veterans - “creating disabled vets” because he supports sending more troops
into danger in Iraq.
Mr. Driscoll, a Vietnam-era veteran and founder of the Sacramento Chapter
of Veterans for Peace, explained his desire is to “bring the troops home,
and out of harm’s way as quickly as possible.”
“Rep. Matsui is misleading Sacramento voters, and hiding his true pro-war
views. He pretends to care about veterans, but fails to mention he supports
sending more troops to Iraq, not fewer, and prolonging a conflict that was
wrong in the first place,” said Mr. Driscoll. “Rep. Matsui is creating
disabled vets by the thousands.”
The Green candidate said that if Rep. Matsui “truly had respect for
veterans, he would have listened to veterans who repeatedly attempted to
meet with him before the war to warn him of the dangers. He refused to meet
with the veterans, and later applauded the President’s war.”
“Rep. Matsui is worried about the stability in Iraq, but it is precisely
the occupation by foreign troops which is destabilizing. Sending more
troops will inevitably increase instability and make it more difficult to
bring our troops home safely,” he added.
