Letter written to all co-sponsoring entities of “Unity” 2004

Dear [enter name of person here],

As you’re no doubt well aware by now, one of the leading members of the
bi/queer community, Margaret Cho (* whose image appears on your organization’s
home page), has been disinvited from the Unity 2004 event that you
are co-sponsoring (as I see from this page:
http://www.margaretcho.com/unity.htm).

[* optional: applies to NCTE, SLDN, and National
Stonewall Democrats]

In response The Task Force has withdrawn its support for this event (see
http://www.thetaskforce.org/news/release.cfm?releaseID=711 for a press
release on this subject). I fully agree with and support their decision,
which is in line with the progressive values their organization stands for
(and which I believe yours does as well), and am throughly infuriated by
HRC’s actions in this matter - only the latest in a long string of
grievances various marginalized elements of the community have with them. It
is inconceivable to me that a GLBTIQ organization would allow the religious
right to effectively dictate who can and cannot speak at our events - this
sets a horrible precedent that can only further encourage the forces aligned
against the queer community to seize any opportunity to defame and
intimidate us in the future.

Both in an individual, and in my role as an activist in the bi community (I
serve as a board member of South Bay Bisexual Organizers and Activists,
www.soboa.org, and have done so for several years), I request a formal
statement from [enter org. name here] on this topic (I did not see one on your
web site when I visited it tonight), and encourage you to follow NGLTF’s
lead.
