Cathar Museum
From a list…
On May 14, 2005, at the “Maison Fuzier” in Mazamet, there will be
inaugurated a memorial museum dedicated to Occitan Catharism.
The Museum is coordinated by a scientific committee reuniting a number of
historians and archaeologists specializing in this area. The orientation of
the museum is to present a living, demystifying and respectful image of a
largely unknown bit of history.
They have devlopled a whole course of illustrative teachings on site showing
the human reality of Catharism - a form of well defined medieval Christian
piety which Rome denounced as a heresy just prior to taking measures to
assure its eradication: the crusades and the inquisition.
Aside from the exposition, diverse texts, documents and medieval
iconography, along with audiovisual presentations using innovative
museography techniques will allow a multi-leveled visit, perhaps captivating
the visitors, but while being soundly informing to the point of developing a
deeply personal understanding of history.
