Fascinating Sports Illustrated/ESPN study on homosexuality and sports
Here’s the feature article: Americans believe they have become more accepting — but have they?
The level of internal contradictions is amazing… 44% believe that homosexuality is a sin (48% don’t), and yet 61% believe that it is a way of life that should be accepted. That means at least 17% of the people responding both believe it is a sin, and yet also believe it should be accepted. Amazing. The feature article talks about this in more detail.
Here are the detailed results of the survey… including a section about homosexuals working in sports, which shows the American public is split right down the middle on whether homosexuals can work in Little League positions… the percentage thinking it is o.k. for them to work with adults in sports is an absolute majority.
Certainly, overall, the queer rights movement has to regard the results positively… clearly, there are still a lot of people who need educating, but we are making great progress overall.
