Geek vs entrepreneur vs hybrid (me)

Geek - sees HP4000m switch with 10 10/100 modules at an office moving/surplus sale, goes, “cool!” If s/he buys it, s/he does for the coolness factor of plugging their home network into something that originally cost a ridiculous amount of money, or as a cool toy to play around with. The price is immaterial. S/he may try and negotiate it down for the sheer pleasure of bargaining, but if they have the money and want it, they’re prepared to pay a reasonable price.

Entrepreneur - sees a bunch of mysterious computing junk, if s/he bothers to look… wanders over to office supply section, and goes, “The last time I hired someone, my secretary spent close to fifty dollars on bullshit like this, before the woman ever sat down at her desk… they’re selling the same thing here for a quarter. I think I’ll buy a dozen of each, and stick ‘em in the supply closet so that I don’t have to do that the next time we hire someone.”

The hybrid goes - I smell an opportunity. I know my tech, and I’m certain that thing has got to be worth something on eBay (a helluva lot more than that ISDN router over there). Let’s see if we can make some money here. Badda bing… profit at 7x investment, and rising. :)
